Following the Nepal Earthquake in April which killed 9000 people and injured more than 19000, hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless. To help support the victims the Rotary Club of Broadlands and the Rotary Club of Wroxham Bure Valley held a joint collection on the Spring Bank Holiday Monday at Roys of Wroxham. The Club members were overwhelmed by the generosity of the local residents and others using the store and we were able to collect an amazing £1125 for the disaster relief. This sum has further increased to £1800 by individual donations. In Nepal urgent help was required to provide emergency shelter, clean water, food and medicine. Using the funds collected we have initially been able to send two Shelter Boxes which provide emergency shelter and vital supplies to support the affected communities.
ShelterBox aid is tailored to a disaster but typically includes a disaster relief tent for a family of 10, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack. Both clubs would like to thank all who contributed, and to Roys of Wroxham for the use of their premises.
